Chartered – March 16, 1991

During the enigmatic eighties, engulfed by the awesome demographic changes, the need for community service expansion in the Foothill community became clearly apparent.  For over a five-year period, discussions on the feasibility of a new chapter in the area were held. Additionally, reclamation of sorors qualified and willing to provide a myriad of community services coupled with the expertise and leadership experience of active Deltas, inevitably led to the birth of the Foothill Alumnae Chapter.

Planning sorors firmly believed that the establishment of this chapter would provide an opportunity for networking between sorors of diverse talents and skills. Many of the skills were developed through a variety of career fields and work with other volunteer organizations along the Foothills in the northeast portion of Los Angeles County.  By the end of 1990, the Foothill Alumnae Chapter charter application was submitted. Grounded in the tradition of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the charter application was made with a commitment toward enhancing the deliverance of public service to the local community. Meanwhile, this endeavor increased the active and financial membership in the Farwest Region, empowering the National Program.

At the beginning of the 1990 Christmas Season, proposed charter members were notified of preliminary approvals. What a wonderful Christmas present! Dreams were fulfilled on March 16, 1991 when chartering became a reality. The Foothill Alumnae Chapter (F.A.C.) became a fact!!!

Chartering activities included an inspirational Delta Internal Development morning workshop, lunch, and the chartering ceremony at the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church, 1180 North Lincoln Avenue, Pasadena California. A formal tea immediately followed the impressive ceremonial event, where the new chapter was greeted and congratulated by National, Regional and local guests.  Officiating over segments, and enjoying the entire chartering day activities were National Treasurer, Soror Marcia Fudge, and Farwest Regional Director, Soror June laVerne Long.  The memorable occasion was culminated by a Black Tie Dinner Dance at the Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel in Monrovia, California. Joined by friends and other Greek letter organizations, the Foothill Alumnae Chapter sorors never looked lovelier in their red and white formal gowns.  ….more
